The excitement surrounding the India-Brazil international friendly has reached another level in Kolkata, with Brazil head coach Carlo Ancelotti acknowledging the country’s strong passion for football ahead of Saturday’s clash at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan.
Ancelotti, who is leading Brazil in this new phase, began his interaction with the media in Kolkata with a warm “Namaste”. The experienced coach also spoke about the reception his team has received in India and the enthusiasm surrounding the visit of the Seleção.
According to Ancelotti, Brazil are aware of the special connection Indian football supporters have with the Brazilian national team.
“It was an honour for us to be here with the national team. We know how this region loves the national team, loves football, and we are happy to be here to play against India and to show the quality that our players have,” Ancelotti said.
Brazil Have Studied India Ahead of the Match
While the spotlight has largely been on Brazil’s star-studded squad, Ancelotti made it clear that India are not being taken lightly.
The Brazil coaching staff have analysed India’s recent performances, including their 1-1 draw against Panama. Ancelotti described the Indian side as organised and highlighted their pace in attack.
He also identified Ryan Williams as a player Brazil will need to keep an eye on during the match.
“We saw the last game that they played against Panama, when they drew. It’s a good team, well organised, they are fast in front; they have a good striker, (Ryan) Williams, that could be dangerous for us,” Ancelotti said.
The Brazil boss added that his team have been assessing India’s quality and characteristics, indicating that the visitors have approached the fixture with detailed preparation and respect for their opponents.
Marquinhos Highlights the Importance of Performance
Brazil captain Marquinhos also addressed the massive support expected from Indian fans. For the defender, the strongest way for Brazil to connect with supporters is through their performance on the pitch.
He stressed the importance of playing well, delivering strong performances and competing for major honours.
The Brazilian captain also acknowledged the affection shown by fans in India, saying the support provides the team with energy, connection and motivation.
Kolkata Ready for a Special Football Night
The India-Brazil friendly represents more than just another international fixture. It brings together two football cultures separated by geography but connected by the sport’s global appeal.
For Indian players, facing one of the most recognised national teams in world football provides an opportunity to test themselves against elite opposition. For Brazil, the fixture offers another chance to assess the team as they continue their new cycle under Ancelotti.
With Brazil arriving in Kolkata amid enormous fan interest and India preparing for the challenge, the stage is set for an eagerly anticipated evening at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan.
