India vs Brazil: Under the bright lights of Kolkata’s Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan, Indian football experienced a night that will be remembered for years. The Blue Tigers faced five-time FIFA World Cup champions Brazil in a highly anticipated international encounter on Saturday, October 3, 2026.

Estêvão opened the scoring before adding his influence to Brazil’s second, while substitute Samuel Lino scored twice after the interval to complete the victory.

India Start with Discipline and Confidence

Vinicius Junior

India began the match with a compact defensive setup designed to restrict Brazil’s movement through the middle. For the opening 25 minutes, the Blue Tigers executed that plan effectively, forcing Brazil to look for alternative routes into the attacking third.

In the India vs Brazil match, Brazil created the first major opportunity in the eighth minute. Vinícius Júnior cut inside from the left and worked his way past Bijoy Varghese before testing Gurpreet Singh Sandhu. The Indian goalkeeper reacted well to keep the effort out.

India responded with an attacking move of their own soon after. Manvir Singh picked up possession on the left and drove towards the Brazilian penalty area, but the visiting defence quickly closed down the space.

Estêvão Breaks the Deadlock

India vs Brazil

Brazil finally found their opening in the 28th minute.

Estêvão received the ball close to the edge of the penalty area and was given enough room to advance. The Chelsea forward then unleashed a left-footed strike towards the near post. Sandhu got a hand to the attempt, but the ball continued into the net.

The goal changed the rhythm of the contest. Brazil began to find more space in attacking positions, while India faced increasing pressure.

Pedro nearly doubled the advantage in the 36th minute when Estêvão delivered a dangerous cross. His header, however, came back off the right post.

Brazil did not have to wait much longer for another goal.

In the 42nd minute, Estêvão produced a perfectly weighted pass behind the Indian defence. Pedro made the run, reached the ball ahead of the defenders and finished past Sandhu to make it 2-0.

India survived another dangerous situation shortly before half-time when Brazil threatened again, ensuring that the visitors entered the break with a two-goal advantage.

India Come Out Fighting After Half-Time

Both managers made significant changes at the interval. Brazil coach Carlo Ancelotti introduced five fresh players, while India brought on Prabhsukhan Singh Gill, Jay Gupta and Mohammed Sanan.

The substitutions gave India renewed energy.

Ryan Williams recorded India’s first shot on target in the second half with an effort from outside the box. Moments later, Manvir Singh created another opportunity, forcing Brazilian goalkeeper Morisco into a save from a difficult angle.

The Blue Tigers were showing greater attacking intent, but Brazil’s quality in transition remained a constant threat.

Samuel Lino Punishes India

Brazil extended their advantage in the 58th minute after India attempted to build from the back.

Bijoy Varghese lost possession near the Indian penalty area, allowing Samuel Lino to collect the ball in a dangerous position. Lino composed himself before curling a precise finish beyond Gill to put Brazil 3-0 ahead.

Despite the setback, India refused to stop attacking.

Williams managed to get beyond his marker and enter the penalty area in the 64th minute. His effort was blocked by Mauro Júnior, before Brazil dealt with the resulting scramble.

A few minutes later, India produced another promising attack. Williams found Manvir, who attracted several Brazilian defenders before returning the ball into Williams’ path. The midfielder attempted a first-time volley, but the shot narrowly missed the right post.

Brazil Add a Fourth in Stoppage Time

India continued to look for a consolation goal, while Brazil remained dangerous whenever they moved forward.

Prabhsukhan Singh Gill produced an excellent save in the 92nd minute, denying Vanderson after the Brazilian defender reacted quickest to a rebound.

But there was still time for one final Brazilian attack.

Samuel Lino cut inside and found space near the Indian goal before firing a low effort towards the near post. Gill got a hand to the ball, but could not keep it out.

Lino’s second goal of the evening completed Brazil’s 4-0 victory.

India vs Brazil – Defeat for India, But a Memorable Night

The final score gave Brazil a convincing victory, but India’s performance contained several encouraging moments.

The Blue Tigers did not simply sit back and defend throughout the contest. They attempted to press, created chances of their own and continued pushing forward even after Brazil had established a commanding lead.

For Indian football supporters, the occasion itself was historic. Sharing the pitch with one of international football’s most successful teams in front of a passionate Kolkata crowd provided an unforgettable experience.

After the final whistle, the competitive atmosphere gave way to mutual respect. Players from both sides greeted each other, exchanged handshakes and posed for photographs.

Brazil walked away with a 4-0 win, but the night also represented an important moment for Indian football. Against one of the biggest names in world football, the Blue Tigers showed determination, ambition and the willingness to compete.
